The course of Riva dei Tessali has been cleverly designed by John Harris and Marco Croze. The design has respected the natural environment. The course, born in 1968, winds through a beautiful and ancient Mediterranean scrub: among rosemary, tamarisk, myrtle, juniper, broom and majestic pines. The first nine holes, are made more difficult by the presence of large Aleppo pines while the other nine, which merely run along the woods, are less demanding although some snare is offered by the water hazards. Traditional venue for the Open of Puglia and Basilicata, the golf course of Riva dei Tessali is an 18-hole par 71 of 5,960 meters, a track that does not forget the beauty of the pine forest and the comfortable temperatures. The Metaponto Golf Club, nestled in a lush citrus orchard, founded in 2000, is the second course of the Resort Riva dei Tessali Championship and the first course of the Basilicata Championship. The field is characterized by wide fairways, undulating greens and water hazards. The excursion to Matera “city of stones” named European capital of culture 2019 and UNESCO World Heritage Site, includes a visit to the typical houses built in the rock. Matera is also famous for the movies that have been shot there, the most famous of which surely is Mel Gibson’s “The Passion”. The visit will end with a meal in the historic city center.
